If you have been summoned to serve as a juror in the Massillon Municipal Court, this information will supplement the documents you received with your notification.

Please note that you are to report to the Court, which is located on the second floor of the Massillon Municipal Government Center at Two James Duncan Plaza S.E. (at the corner of Tremont Avenue S.E. and First Street S.E.), in downtown Massillon. Jury service is for a one-day period. If your service is not required, you will be instructed that there is no jury. If there is no jury, your jury service obligation is completed and you do not need to call again.

To find out if you are needed, call 330-830-1733 to hear a recorded message. All jurors (except those previously excused) are required to check the recording, which will designate whether jurors are to report for jury duty the next morning. Therefore, it is very important you check the recording after 4:30 p.m. the evening before your jury service. Report for jury duty only when instructed to do so.

Parking is available for jurors behind the Massillon Municipal Court Government Center off of Tremont Avenue S.E. (across from the Massillon Y.M.C.A.).

After your jury service has ended, you will receive a voucher, paying you $10.00 if you appeared in court. Allow ten days for a check to be mailed to you from the Stark County Auditor.

Exemptions
Senate Bill 69 that became effective April 16, 1998, repeals any previous exemptions; including the 70 and older age exemption. Only a trial Judge can excuse a potential juror for one of the following statutory reasons listed below:

  • Absence from the county.
  • Physical inability to serve.
  • Recent death or dangerous illness of the juror’s spouse or a near relative of the juror or the juror’s spouse.
  • Prior service within the same jury year.
  • Material harm to the interests of the juror or public.
  • The juror is a member of a cloistered religious organization.

Should you require additional information regarding the jury process after reading this and the information provided with the juror notice card mailed to you, please call 330-830-1730.
